New Beginnings

So you may have noticed a fairly significant change here at good old twosittingducks.com. Everything is looking very ‘default’ and all of the old stuff has gone missing.

Basically, I realised that the old site was running on a host that seemed to be incredibly slow. That made visiting, editing, updating and managing the site a real pain. The site had also gotten a bit bloated. The site content had migrated through a number of content management systems, starting with Movable Type 2.6 (that was a long time ago!), through the MT versions up to 3.2. At that point I switched to WordPress. To make my job of transitioning easier, I actually left the old Movable Type installation running as well as the new WordPress system. It worked, but it wasn’t pretty.

In addition to that, the Gallery program was annoying me. I started to prefer using an external site, [Zooomr](http://zooomr.com/), to host our images. That was easier than hosting it on my own server, but their service has been a little unreliable.

Finally, I felt that the old format of twosittingducks.com was getting a little stale. The self-imposed discipline of having to put a picture up with every post started to work against me. Sometimes I just wanted to throw up a quick comment, or a link to a site, but didn’t want to bother with a photo. Yet doing that would have broken the continuity of the site.

The upshot is that I’ve simply decided to make a fresh start. I’ve got a new server, which will hopefully be quicker than the old one. It’s also easier to use and manage. I did archive the old site, but I don’t think I’m going to put any of it up here. It’s liberating to have a fresh start. I’m sure Google will have a cache of everything anyway! One positive is that all those myspace sites that had pinched our photos for use on their god-awful templates will have to find new pictures. :-)

Expect things to be a little sparse around here as I get the site up into a format that is a little more interesting than the default WordPress theme. It might take me a little while though, because I simply don’t have as much time as I used to.

Finally, please check your bookmarks/RSS feeds for this site. I used to run the site from a subdirectory, but now it’s all simply twosittingducks.com. Much cooler.

Glad to see that Two Sitting Ducks site is alive and well – I had thought that it may have totally expired.
A bit sad to see the archive disappear, but I understand the desire for a new start – so long as you have it somewhere. Some of those posts were excellent, and history is always worth saving!
I know how busy you are, but will look forward to more quacking and flapping as time goes on.

Hooray! I’m glad you are back!

I, too, am glad to see you back up and running. Missed the posts the last few weeks. The photos are always so good that I hope you will keep them up as much as possible.

Plus this is the one of only two RSS feeds that I have! When it is working I feel really technologically advanced.

Good to see you’re up and running again.

I’ve adjusted my RSS subscription so I’m ready for all the new posts. :)
